March 2022: We are overjoyed: the new huts in the township are built and seven families have a home again.
We informed you in December 2021 about the devastating fire in the township, in which seven poor families lost their homes. The huts were completely burned down along with the furniture. Fortunately, no one was injured and the families were able to find temporary shelter with helpful neighbours. In recent months, we have also been able to provide the families with food parcels.
After the fire the new construction started
Thanks to your help and the great willingness to donate during the Christmas season, we were able to start directly with the reconstruction of the huts at the beginning of this year. In the meantime, the seven families could already move into their new domiciles. They are very grateful for the quick support and full of joy. The new huts were built of wood in the way which is typical for the township and they have corrugated iron roofs. In addition, we were able to give each family new cooking pots.
The costs for the construction of the house, including the delivery of the building materials, the food packages as well as the cooking pots amount to approx. 375 Euro per family.

Enclosed you find photos of the construction process and information about the families. Most of the families come from the bitterly poor neighbouring country of Lesotho, have no identity documents and therefore receive no financial support from the state of South Africa. Some adults have a casual job but most are unemployed, making it difficult to feed the many children. In addition, some parents are HIV positive. The new huts are therefore all the more a blessing for these needy families. As soon as the families have settled in we want to provide them with seeds and gardening tools for their own vegetable garden.

We thank all donors from the bottom of our hearts and send a warm "Siyabonga" from the seven families in the township.
Now we wish you a beautiful and sunny start into spring!
